About Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (Introduction)
The only shipyard and oldest heavy engineering facility in Pakistan, KS&EW specialises in general and heavy engineering as well as shipbuilding and ship repair. It has historically contributed to the transfer of technologies and the expansion of the nation’s industrial base.
Additionally, it constructs and repairs for a broad range of clients, including the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, the Karachi Port Trust, the Port Qasim Authority, and the country’s private sector. The Government of Pakistan, which is governed by the Ministry of Defence on an administrative level, is the sole shareholder of the corporation.
It was started in the middle of the 1950s as a Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation project (PIDC). Later, in 1957, it was formed as a public limited company with a managing director and a board of directors.
